Warm Affection for Younger Generation

The following happened after the liberation of Korea.

One day President Kim Il Sung met businessmen who had donated a huge sum of money for the building of a new Korea.

The businessmen suggested building a public hall with the donated money to ensure that national meetings would be held in the presence of President Kim Il Sung.

With beaming smile on his face, Kim Il Sung said: "I'd like to build a palace for children before anything else. In old days only kings could occupy palace. But in the liberated country, we should make our younger generation take palace. Let's build a fine palace for younger generation."

After that, he visited the construction site of schoolchildren's palace in the most suitable place on Jangdae Hill.

Looking round the several places of the construction site, he gave a precious instruction to build the palace on the highest level.

At that time an official told him that the floors were to be covered with parquet and the walls to be plastered and then painted.

At this he, wearing a gloomy look, said to an official of an organ concerned on the telephone: "You remember that we have always planned to build a palace for children since we fought with Japs on mountains to liberate the country. Now, in order to realize our dream, we have built a big house on the fine site. Then, how we can parquet the rooms. We should cover the floor with the best building materials, marble or diamond and so build a palace in the real sense of the word."

Just that was the lifelong outlook of President Kim Il Sung on posterity and his noble view of life with which he felt the greatest worth and happiness.

Like this, the Pyongyang Schoolchildren's Palace was built under the loving care of President Kim Il Sung as a palace for children in the true sense of the word.
