Sungryong Hall
The Sungryong Hall is a precious cultural heritage situated in Central District of Pyongyang, capital city of the DPRK.
The Sungryong Hall is a building of shrine during the period of the feudal Joson dynasty. It was firstly built in the 15th century.
Originally, it was a shrine where people used to hold services in memory of Tangun, founding father of Ancient Korea. Later, people held services in memory of Tangun and King Tongmyong.
The present building was rebuilt in the 18th century.
The Sungryong Hall had consisted of the main building, three east servants’ quarters, two west servants’ quarters, the main gate and east and west straits. However, most of them were destroyed by the Japanese imperialist aggressors and the main building and the main gate were left. They had been seriously destroyed by the brutal bombing of the U.S. imperialists during the Fatherland Liberation War.
After the war they were restored to the former state.
The Sungryong Hall is a precious heritage reflecting architecture during the period of the feudal Joson dynasty.
