In Days of Ushering in Golden Age of Construction
Personally Choosing the Site for Lodging Quarters
One day in February, 2015, the respected General Secretary
Watching the map showing the bird’s-eye view of the complex displayed at the construction site, he suggested that lodging quarters had to be built there to provide the people coming to study at the complex with room and board.
Then he asked the officials where to locate the lodging quarters.
The officials couldn’t readily answer him.
At that time, the relevant officials expected the construction of a small inn while building the complex but hadn’t yet decided the right site for the building.
Being informed of such fact, the respected General Secretary pointed out that the capacity of the inn they expected was too small and instructed to build the lodging quarters at least twice larger.
Presently, he looked carefully at the general blueprint of the Sci-Tech Complex and pointed to a place, saying that the lodging quarters had to be built in such a place that they could be seen clearly from the opposite side of the river as well as from the Chungsong Bridge.
And he continued that it would be good to build the lodging quarters on the plot beside the complex.
Ideal, indeed, was the site chosen by the respected General Secretary.
On the day of the completion of the Sci-Tech Complex, the designing officials looked at the visiting scientists’ quarters in excitement.
The lodging quarters resembled the wheelhouse of the giant boat of Sci-Tech Complex, making headway through the vast River Taedong, pride of Pyongyang.
Indeed, this is another proud entity showing the unique and great creative ability possessed by the respected General Secretary.
Elevation Formation Changed
In May, 2016, the respected General Secretary visited the Natural History Museum before completion.
At the exhibition building, balconies were installed on every story outside the walls done with green tiles and a slanting tree was depicted between the balconies of two stories. The outer walls of the management building were done with glass so that the building as a whole looked like a round fish bowl or a round basket.
Altogether, they were presenting a peculiar architectural style.
Even more spectacular were the dish-shaped round observation platforms installed at various heights outside the balconies in front of the main building.
The officials looked at the museum with admiration.
At that moment, the respected General Secretary pointed out that the architectural elevation of the museum was similar to that of a building remodeled shortly ago.
Then he stressed that the balconies had to be covered with artificial grass and the circular pillars had to be twined round with ivy so that the building wouldn’t look like a tiled one.
He continued that the entrance to the central hall had to be also wreathed with natural vines so that people would feel as if they were entering a forest.
That day, he taught that it was the core and seed in architecture to do full justice to the characteristics of the object in forming the elevation, noting that architecture was like dressing a person.
His instruction on the core and seed of architecture was a precious gnome which the officials should keep in their minds on all occasions and courses of creation and construction.
