Historic Relic Hyonmu Gate in Pyongyang

The Hyonmu Gate was built first in the mid-sixth century and was rebuilt in 1714.

The Hyonmu Gate was named after "Hyonmu", the guardian defending the north in the pictures of four guardians of the Koguryo tomb murals.

The Hyonmu Gate was well suited to the terrain condition of Moran Hill in Pyongyang and it is a precious historic relic showing high architecture of our ancestors.

The Hyonmu Gate had been seriously destroyed by the U.S. imperialists’ brutal bombings during the Fatherland Liberation War.

After the war it was restored to its former glory and has been preserved well thanks to our Party’s policy on protecting national heritages.
