Primeval Forest of Mt Oga
The primeval forest of Mt Oga is situated between Hwaphyong County in Jagang Province and Kim Hyong Jik County in Ryanggang Province in the northern part of our country.
The primeval forest of Mt Oga attracts attention from the world as it has rich species of animals and plants and the area is covered in dense jungle.
A yew tree which is more than 1, 000 years old, a Korean pine over 500 years old and many other plants growing there have been registered as living monuments.
There are abundant resources of useful plants of economic value such as edible herbs and medicinal plants in the forest.
Also many kinds of animals, birds, reptiles and amphibians live there.
The primeval forest of Mt Oga has an important academic value in studying natural history of Mt Oga and it is a treasure of the country with a great significance in disseminating scientific knowledge about animals and plants.
Thanks to our Party’s policy on protecting living monuments, the primeval forest of Mt Oga is well preserved as a living monument.
