Pohyon Temple in Anbyon
The Pohyon Temple in Anbyon, located in Mt Hwangryong of Anbyon County, Kangwon Province, is one of the nation’s valuable architectural heritages, which reflects our ancestors’ distinguished architectural and artistic skills.
Originally it consisted of 10-odd buildings including the Pogwang Hall, the central building, but now only the Pogwang Hall, Ungjin Hall, Jomhwa Room, Kungnak Hall, Myongbu Hall, Ilju Gate and Hongmun Bridge remain there.
The Pogwang Hall has three folding doors on the front and two on the side.
Its columns are steel ones.
The Pogwang Hall stands above the stereobate of about 2 meters high and the stereobate was piled up regularly with granite in line with the surface.
Standing on the both sides of the stone stairway installed in the front center of the stereobate are stone lions of 2 meters long and 1.4 meters high.
The stone lions give the impression of bravery.
At the front of the temple is a bridge which is said to be arranged there when the temple was first built.
The bridge, made by processing granite, is 2.5 meters wide, about 12 meters long and about 4.5 meters high. It is of good make.
The Anbyon Pohyon Temple with a long history is well preserved and its surroundings are used as a pleasant cultural resort for working people.
