President
As the birth anniversary of President
The President, who believed in the people as in Heaven all his life, made ceaseless journeys for the happiness of the people.
In those days, lots of touching stories were born.
Among them is a story about the President who listened to an ordinary old farmer unreservedly and dearly cherished the people’s sincerity.
It happened one March day in 1946, when all the country was seething with great excitement at the historic event of promulgation of the Agrarian Reform Law.
The President, during his field guidance, dropped in at a noodle shop with an official.
An elderly man sitting opposite to him was just looking out at the calf he had tied outside though the noodles he had ordered had been served.
The President watched the man with a smile as if he had read the man’s thoughts and kindly offered him the noodle, putting the vessel nearer to him and saying the noodles were going to turn soft.
Then, the man said thanks and replied in a carefree tone, "I don’t mind if the noodles go soft. All is ours now."
Listening to him, the President agreed he sure was right.
The man, who was buoyed up by the reply, began to unbosom himself.
He told he lived over Ot Slope and had received 3 000 phyongs of land thanks to the benevolence of General
He was so eager to do farming well and affirmed he was going to buy a bull in the autumn though he could afford only a calf then.
Not recognizing who he was talking to, the man even bragged he was going to own a bull at any cost.
Then, he asked the President for a cigarette.
The accompanying official was about to give him a hint, unable to bear his discourtesy.
However, the President dissuaded the official, offered the man a cigarette and even lit it.
That day, the President listened to the farmer’s story reflecting his inmost thoughts and also enjoyed noodles with him.
Before leaving the noodle shop, he hoped the man would both secure plenty of provisions and buy a large bull by doing that year’s farming well.
Indeed, the President, regarding it as the greatest pleasure to be among the people and possessing boundlessly modest and companionable personality, blended in with the people without an inch of distance, had faith in the road to be covered by the Party and the state from their humble stories and performed miracles of history by motivating the inexhaustible strength of the people.
His sublime personality still teaches us what a great man we had and upheld as the leader and father.
