Wise Guidance for Opening New Chapter of Tideland Reclamation

Tideland reclamation is an undertaking for remaking nature to which our Party has attached importance and directed much effort since the founding of the state.

Tideland reclamation has been pushed forward with along with the development of the Republic, thus greatly contributing to the agricultural production of the country.

Now it has entered a new chapter in the great Kim Jong Un’s era.

The respected Comrade General Secretary Kim Jong Un put tideland reclamation forward as a patriotic undertaking for guaranteeing the happiness of all the generations to come in the early days of his revolutionary leadership and has wisely led it step by step onto a higher stage.

On April ２７, ２０１２, the respected Comrade General Secretary had a talk with senior officials of the Party and state economic organs and working people’s organizations and taught that our country plans to reclaim as much as ３００ ０００ jongbos of tideland and that tidelands which are easy to be diked and utilized as arable land should be reclaimed first and networks of facilities be built there in order to make them arable.

In his letter to the participants in the national conference of sub-workteam heads in the agricultural sector on February ６, ２０１４, and on the high platforms of the ５th Plenary Meeting of the ７th Party Central Committee and the historic ８th Party Congress, he attached great significance to the reclamation of the tideland and clarified detailed orientation and ways.

Our people still recollect with deep emotion the ４th Plenary Meeting of the ８th Party Central Committee which provided a milestone for a radical turn in tideland reclamation.

Then and there, the respected Comrade General Secretary set it as a major task to continuously expand areas under cultivation with nationwide efforts concentrated on the campaign to bring more land under cultivation and on tideland reclamation and indicated the goals for tideland reclamation to be attained in the near future.

No one imagined that a gigantic tideland reclamation plan would be formulated in a period of trials when the country encountered extreme hardship and when our Party and government were defending the precious lives and safety of the people in the face of the imperialists’ desperate moves for isolating and stifling the Republic and the spread of the worldwide pandemic.

Indeed, it was a great and courageous determination made by the cherished desire of the great father.

One day in September ２０２２, the officials came to more keenly realize how much importance the respected Comrade General Secretary placed on tideland reclamation and how much effort he was directing to it.

That day, he met the members of the Presidium of the Political Bureau and underlined the need to launch a vigorous campaign for nature-remaking to decisively increase the areas under cultivation.

Then he stressed that President Kim Il Sung had instructed to reclaim ３００ ０００ jongbos of tideland to sufficiently solve the people’s food problem and that we must thoroughly implement his instructions.

His words bore his unshakable will to realize the lifelong desires of President Kim Il Sung and Chairman Kim Jong Il by pressing ahead with tideland reclamation no matter what it may take.

The following is a story associated with the leadership of the great father who set forth an ambitious goal for tideland reclamation and saw that the project was conducted in a more vigorous way.

Some days after the ７th Plenary Meeting of the ８th Party Central Committee, the respected Comrade General Secretary gave precious instructions as to the general plan for tideland reclamation.

At that time, the reclamation area reflected in the general plan was smaller than the past for some reasons.

After learning about it, the respected Comrade General Secretary told a senior official of the Cabinet that we should reclaim at least ３００ ０００ jongbos of tideland in a prospective view of the areas under cultivation in our country and that what we definitely need is paddy field for farming.

Thus, a general plan for reclaiming ３００ ０００ jongbos of tideland was formulated again.

This was equal to a solemn declaration of a revolution in tideland reclamation.

Thanks to the outstanding and seasoned leadership of the respected Comrade General Secretary who is opening a new chapter of campaign for broadening the land of the country, marked successes have been made in tideland reclamation.

２０-odd tideland reclamation projects including those for Woldo and Sokhwa tidelands and the first sector of Aedo Tideland were completed in a few years and the first damming projects were concluded in succession in several regions.

After the reclamation of lots of tidelands, networks of facilities were built there and bumper harvests were reaped from the first year to the people’s delight.

This proud reality is an outcome of the prominent and tested leadership of the respected Comrade General Secretary who puts tideland reclamation forward as another priority to be powerfully promoted for the country’s agricultural development and leads it step by step.

The land of our country will get only wider under the leadership of the respected Comrade General Secretary who makes ceaseless efforts out of boundless love for the country, the people and posterity to turn ours into the most powerful country in the world.
