There are various forms of chess in different countries including ours, reflecting sentiments of relevant nations.

Among them, Janggi still holds an important position in cultural and emotional life of the people as it reflects resourcefulness, wisdom and rich emotions of our people.

According to historic data related to the origin of Janggi, it originated as a mean for generals to study tactics and enhance their command ability in battlefields.

Janggi became widely disseminated among people for its concise structural system and playing method and peculiar and in-depth trick.

It has steadily developed drawing on scientific principles with the passage of time.

Janggi was registered as the national intangible cultural heritage in October ２０１７.
