Anguk Temple, Historic Relic
Among the historic relics showing the long history and culture of our people is the Anguk Temple which is situated in Phyongsong City, South Phyongan Province of the DPRK.
The Anguk Temple was built for 20-odd years in the period of Koguryo.
According to the records, the temple had consisted of dozens of buildings originally.
However, there are the main building Taeungbo Hall, Thaephyong Pavilion, Juphil Pavilion, a dormitory for Buddhist monks and the nine-storey pagoda and a monument in the Anguk Temple.
The Taeungbo Hall is the two-storey building which is a precious cultural heritage of great academic and architectural significance.
The Thaephyong Pavilion is one-storey building with a hip-saddle roof and double eaves and its front has five kans and the side two kans.
There is a nine-storey pagoda in front of the Thaephyong Pavilion. They say that it was made of stone in the period of Koryo Dynasty. It is a valuable heritage for the research into the architectural skills and sculptural art in the then period.
Thanks to the wise guidance of the Workers' Party of Korea, the Anguk Temple is well preserved and maintained showing advantageous architecture and distinguished artistic talents of our ancestors.
