Rich Kelp Harvest Brought About in North Hamgyong Province

A rich kelp harvest has been brought about at offshore farms in North Hamgyong Province.

According to the amassed data, the farming units expect to harvest over twice as much kelp as against last year now that the area of cultivation ground has increased.

At present, the offshore farms in the province harvest hundreds of tons of kelp every day.

Mindful of the importance of offshore farming in increasing the output of marine products, the provincial fishery management bureau put big efforts into preparations for kelp farming.

It took foresighted sci-tech measures for increasing kelp production in the existing cultivation grounds and launched a bold project for increasing their area.

It also took practical measures for securing sufficient materials for farming.

The officials of the management bureau mapped out feasible plans for cultivation units after consolidating their own cultivation materials production bases and placed focus on increasing the output.

The management bureau secured highly productive kelp seeds in contact with relevant units and organized technical studying to ensure scientific manuring and management of kelp.

Based on such preparations, all the cultivation units under the management bureau embarked on kelp-transplantation.

Though they had quite a few difficulties as they had adopted a new variety of kelp, the officials and employees of the cultivation units conducted the transplantation in keeping with the technological requirements.

After the successful completion of the kelp-transplantation, the management bureau strictly demanded that big efforts were directed to the manuring and management.

It dispatched technical officials to cultivation units to timely solve the technical problems arising in the cultivation of new-variety kelp and organized socialist emulation among units to raise the producers’ enthusiasm.

In this course, a rich kelp harvest has been brought about at every cultivation ground in the province.

Without resting on their laurels, the officials and employees of the offshore farming units in the province achieve greater kelp production records as compared with the same period last year, fully displaying collectivist spirit of helping and leading one another forward.
