Spirit of Defending Country in 1950s Is Most Precious Ideological and Spiritual Legacy to Be Inherited by New Generations

70-odd years have passed since a war broke out on this land.

The precious ideological and spiritual wealth all the descendants should bear deep in mind and carry forward forever is just the spirit of defending the country in the 1950s.

The spirit of defending the country in the 1950s is the heroic fighting spirit displayed by the wartime generation during the great Fatherland Liberation War.

In other words, it is the spirit of devotedly implementing orders of the leader displayed by our people and the People’s Army soldiers and the fervent love for the country and the self-sacrificing spirit of those who unhesitatingly laid their youth and lives for defending even an inch of the country’s land, even a single tree and a single blade of grass.

The Fatherland Liberation War with the US imperialists’ aggression army, which was the most ferocious on the earth, and its vassal forces was an enormous challenge for the young army of the newly-emergent Republic with a history of less than two years after its founding.

However, our people and the People’s Army soldiers turned the fateful years of the war into the most proud one and firmly defended the glorious name and flag of the country and its bright future.

Thanks to the war victory achieved by the defenders of the country in the 1950s at the cost of their blood, our country could demonstrate its might as heroic Korea and our people acquire a valuable spiritual wealth which could not be obtained in ordinary days and which could not be learned by reading thousands of books.

The core of the spirit of defending the country is the loyalty to the leader.

The spirit of devotedly defending the leader, the core of the spirit of defending the country, is reflected in the shouts "Long live General Kim Il Sung!", "For the party and leader!" which the brave warriors cried while plunging into a life-and-death battle to keep the pledge they made to President Kim Il Sung and throwing themselves into the enemy with the last grenade left.

Once, the President gave a meaningful instruction that we achieved victory in the Fatherland Liberation War with trust in and love for our own things.

Upon receiving the President’s historic radio speech on June 26, 1950, our People’s Army soldiers and people turned out for defending the country with burning hatred against the enemy who were trying to seize the beloved land.

The slogan "Don’t yield an inch of land to the enemy!" reflective of the fervent love for the country and strong attachment to one’s own things shows the lofty patriotic spirit displayed by the brave soldiers in the war.

The working class of Kunja-ri who ensured wartime production turning belts in machines by hand, the wartime grain producers who produced grain at the cost of their blood in the teeth of heavy bombings, the people in the rear who conveyed foodstuff and ammunition to heights, the scene of battles…

They are just the victorious wartime generation and the ideological spirit of them who fought upholding the slogan "Go all out for victory in the war!" was the source of the strength which gave birth to the victory of the heroic Korea.

Indeed, the spirit of defending the country created in the flames of the war is the most powerful might that defies comparison with any physical might and the most precious asset our new generation should inherit from the war veterans who are strong in ideology and faith.

It is the sacred mission and the greatest honor and glory of our generation to successfully carry forward the tradition of great victory and the heroic spirit created by our people and brave soldiers of the People’s Army during the hard-fought war in the 1950s.

There exist manifold obstacles and hardships checking our advance toward the new victory and the hostile forces’ moves to suffocate and destroy us reach the extreme point.

Though there isn’t any firing of guns, our struggle is as arduous as a war.

Our tradition of victory will be steadily carried forward when we implement without fail the high goal and the huge tasks by inheriting the lofty spirit of the victorious wartime generation.

It is the iron-like will of our people to turn all manner of challenges and difficulties into a new victory and demonstrate to the world the unyielding mettle of heroic Korea, cherishing the spirit of defending the country in the 1950s as the eternal treasured sword for sure victory and the most precious legacy.

The future of the socialist Korea will be ever rosy and our revolution achieve only victory thanks to the outstanding guidance of the great Party and the unlimited strength of our people who are firmly armed with the spirit of defending the country in the 1950s, the most precious ideological and spiritual legacy.
