Story Conveyed by Soksa-ri
Soksa-ri in Kumgang County, Kangwon Province, is recorded in the history of war victory and the memory of younger generations as the symbol of assistance to the front.
The people in Soksa-ri covered not only the road of assisting the army but also the road of evacuating from the front to the rear.
Soksa-ri was situated in the frontline area adjoining Height 1211, the heroic height of our country.
The story about an evacuation in a group which saved people when everything was reduced to ashes due to the heavy bombing and firing of the enemy conveys the world of great love of President
The President gave precious instructions on October 20, 1951.
On that day’s afternoon, the President received a report from the commander of the military department that people in Kangwon Province were devoting their all to assisting the army.
Saying that people in the frontline area weighed heavily in his mind, the President noted that he had met them on his way back from Height 1211.
He continued that the more they devoted efforts to assisting the army, the firmer his intention got to evacuate them to the rear so as to prevent any loss of life by the bombings of the US imperialists and stabilize their living.
The very people the President met were residents in Soksa-ri in Kumgang County, Kangwon Province.
The President paid constant attention to defending the safety of the people during the fierce three-year war.
The President personally organized an operation for saving a child who was left in the enemy rear and he sent a vehicle for helping a bereaved family who failed to resettle in the safe area during the strategic temporary retreat.
According to the measure taken by the President, the people in Soksa-ri started on their way to the rear. Children, nursing mothers, old people and sick persons went by a military vehicle.
During the vortex of war, loss of life and sacrifices were regarded as inevitable. It was unbelievable to mobilize important war equipment for evacuating ordinary people.
However, not only the fighting soldiers on the front but also the people in the rear were most valuable for our President who was possessed of the noblest outlook on the people that motherland means life and future of people.
So, safety of the people always lay in the first place of the ideas and resolves of the President.
Many other measures were also taken for the people in Soksa-ri.
Ri Ok Yong, a woman in Hoechang County, South Phyongan Province, who experienced the war in Soksa-ri at that time, said as follows:
"When we arrived in the safe area of Sanwol-ri from Soksa-ri, there were dozens of empty houses. It seemed to me like a dream when we were resettled in the safe place from the firing line through shower of bullets and provided with living conditions. Indeed, young as I was, I could not repress my astonishment."
It was a touching story.
The residents in Soksa-ri were very ordinary people in the country during the war.
For such people, benevolent instructions of the President who was shouldering the heavy burden of war were sent on the air and military vehicles ran through the shower of bullets.
This fact makes the people feel that the victory in the Fatherland Liberation War means the victory of ardent love shown by our President.
The story about the residents in Soksa-ri clearly proves where the duty of the Workers’ Party of Korea that takes deeper care of the people when it is in stern and difficult situation is rooted.
