In Order to Make Education Able to Shoulder Future of Country
In the new era of overall state development, our education is taking great strides of progress and leaps forward.
The enforcement of a new optional education course according to the second universal １２-year compulsory education programme is another transformation signifying the establishment of a new educational structure, which serves as a reliable foundation able to put the secondary education on an advanced level and as a springboard for making ours an education which can be fully entrusted with our future.
This is the precious outcome of the wise guidance of the respected Comrade General Secretary
September ９, ２０２２, is a meaningful day when our education greeted another new turning point of transformation.
That day, the respected Comrade General Secretary instructed the officials to modify the country’s education structure so that it can afford advanced education and accordingly improve the contents and methods of education.
True to his lofty intention, the officials and specialists in the field of education racked their brains in pursuit of the way to renovate the education structure.
In this course, the restructuring of education for enforcing the optional subject system in the field of secondary education came up for discussion.
However, there were too many problems to solve to reach a consensus.
Seeing through this situation, the respected Comrade General Secretary indicated clear-cut ways and methods for the renovation of education structure.
At the Sixth Plenary Meeting of the Eighth Central Committee of the Workers’ Party of Korea, the respected Comrade General Secretary taught to design and execute the education course in such a way that students at higher middle schools and higher technical middle schools can receive education in the fields of literature, natural science, art, technical knowledge, and the like according to their individual characters, and thus make all the students acquire one or more techniques and skills.
He also underlined the need to revise the education structure in the sector of higher education, too, so that it can produce useful talents with practical abilities and prominent talents who can play a leading role in the development of science and technology, and economy.
Later on, he energetically led the reformation of the country’s education structure.
After examining the revision plan of the education structure proposed by the education sector, he ensured that the issue was discussed and decided at the plenary meeting of the Party Central Committee, again.
Consequently, at the Eighth Plenary Meeting of the Eighth Party Central Committee held in June ２０２３, it was made clear that vital in making our education the one which can be fully entrusted with our future is to rationally form all the elements and sectors of education including educational establishments, educational forces, educational processes and means of education and establish an education structure which can provide advanced education, to renovate the contents and methods of education, to strengthen the ranks of teachers and to improve the conditions and environment for education.
Thanks to the wise guidance of the respected Comrade General Secretary, the conversion of the education course in the secondary education sector into one by the optional subject system was launched on a full scale.
A plan for newly forming optional classes such as natural science class, literature class, art class, sports class and technical knowledge class at higher middle schools and higher technical middle schools was presented.
According to it, the second universal １２-year compulsory education programme was newly mapped out and a group of over １ ０００ people for writing textbooks was organized to dynamically press on with writing textbooks for different levels of schools, different grades and different subjects.
Under such preparations, the optional subject system was enforced from April last year on a trial basis at higher middle schools in Hoechang County in South Phyongan Province, Songrim City in North Hwanghae Province and Jongphyong County in South Hamgyong Province, representative of the characteristics of cities and counties in our country.
The introduction results turned out to be very good and it caused great repercussions.
The students grew higher in their zeal and abilities as they learnt what they actually needed according to their characters, interests and hopes.
On such a basis, the optional subject system according to the new education programme has been enforced at once at all the higher middle schools and higher technical middle schools from April this year.
Education by the optional subject system is a solid foundation and an obvious turning point for training talents for different sectors in a larger number and at a faster rate and developing the secondary general education onto a higher stage.
It is the grand ideal and steadfast will of our Party to train numberless talents, the greatest resources of the overall state rejuvenation, by building a talent power and thus steadfastly guarantee the prosperity of the country and our future.
The bright future for building an educational power will be brought earlier as we have the wise guidance of the respected Comrade General Secretary who ushers in a new heyday of talent training with far-reaching plans and brilliant wisdom.
