To Kindle Fierce Flame of Emulation across Country
Flame He Kindled in Designing Sector
One March day ten-odd years ago, the respected Comrade General Secretary
He taught issues arising in the construction while touring the construction site. All of a sudden he asked which unit designed the old people’s home.
After learning about the unit which designed the old people’s home, he appreciated that the designing unit did quite a good job.
Listening to him, the officials were moved.
Whenever a building was erected, he gave detailed instructions to design it well in a peculiar and foresighted way.
All those successes were unthinkable apart from the loving care of the respected Comrade General Secretary who sent many reference data to designers to broaden their view and develop their ideas, and personally came to the spot to teach the way for remaking it.
That day, too, the respected Comrade General Secretary had unfolded the plan for splendidly building the Pyongyang Old People’s Home taking account of its surrounding environment and age and psychological qualities of health-seekers and indicated in detail the ways for depiction.
He said to the officials full of emotion that, in the future, appreciations must be made by considering which unit and who presented prizewinning miniature when summing up the work of designing institutions and designers. He continued that this could make designing institutions and designers conduct emulation with each other and then excellent miniatures could be produced.
His instruction served as a precious seed kindling the flames of emulation among designing institutions and designers across the country in the struggle for adding luster to the heyday of construction.
They Should Swap Experiences and Learn from Others
One August day, the respected Comrade General Secretary visited the Taedonggang Combined Fruit Farm in spite of sultry weather.
At the orchard full of fragrance of fruits, the respected Comrade General Secretary expressed great satisfaction at apple trees heavily laden with apples.
Going round the farm despite the parching heat, he instructed that the farm should set a higher goal and wage a vigorous struggle to this end. Then he asked an official of the farm about its rank in the socialist emulation of the pomiculture sector in the previous year.
Being informed that the farm won the first place in the emulation, the respected Comrade General Secretary encouraged the farm to win the top place that year, too, and stressed the need to organize well the socialist emulation among major fruit production bases.
He said to the officials that apple production bases should also compete in increasing per-hectare yield of apple and whether such indices as per-tree yield and the weight per fruit, sugar content and acidity of apples make the grade.
He continued that through the socialist emulation, the apple production bases should exchange experiences gained in the campaign for carrying out the Party’s decisions and learn from others.
The officials kept deep in mind the respected Comrade General Secretary’s instruction as his earnest request that the fruit-growing sector should briskly organize and launch the campaign for overtaking, learning from others and swapping experiences each other to let fruit production bases make great strides, thus bringing about rich fruit harvest every year.
