Chol Pass is a rugged mountain road of ninety-nine curves, which is ６７７ meters in elevation and covers ８０ ri in total ascending and descending.
Every curve of the pass is associated with touching stories.
On May １０, １９６５, the Chairman went over the pass for the first time.

Since then, the Chairman went over the rugged pass １８ times for the sake of the beloved country and people.
He went over the pass with a "do-or-die" will to firmly defend the country associated with the noble life of the President and our people from the aggression of the imperialist forces by devoting his all.
There were times when he personally drove over the pass, saying that the supreme commander should drive in person to acquaint himself with the front road. Indeed, he left his sacred traces in the pass all the year round.
Thanks to his ceaseless front journey, guards divisions were imbued with ever-invincible strength and courage and posts across the country strengthened more firmly into a fortress which no enemy dares to provoke.
There is the Cholryong Revolutionary Site at the top of the pass.

One day in August ２０１２, the respected General Secretary went over Chol Pass to visit a unit of the Korean People’s Army (KPA) situated on the eastern front.
Saying to the accompanying officials that they should be well aware of the reason why the Chairman so frequently went over the pass, the respected General Secretary noted with deep emotion that thanks to the forced march to the pass the Chairman covered with a "do-or-die" will our country could emerge as a nuclear weapons state, a military power.
Etched in the pass are innumerable touching stories unprecedented in the world history of army building.
Once, the Chairman visited a KPA unit on the occasion of the significant April holiday.
That morning, he summoned commanding officers of the KPA.
Saying that he all the more missed soldiers the President loved very much and he would be relieved of his anxiety only when he saw them spending holiday, the Chairman proposed leaving for a forefront unit on the eastern front over Chol Pass.
The soldiers of the unit were moved to tears when the Chairman visited their unit and said that he came to see them who would be in profound yearning for the President on the occasion of the April holiday.
Indeed, his love for soldiers was the most ardent love of a great father and the loftiest love of a great brilliant commander who shares weal and woe with soldiers.
That’s why the respected General Secretary warmly said that he regarded the frontline defended by soldiers as his courtyard; we, all together, should not let the Chairman’s devotion be wasted.
Chol Pass commands a bird’s-eye view of the sea of fruits unfolded in the Kosan Combined Fruit Farm and the whole Kosan County.
Such a wonderful sea of fruits and beautiful appearance of Kosan County undergoing transformation day by day are attributable to the ceaseless front journey of the Chairman.
The more dynamically the country advances and the earlier the rosy future is brought, never should we forget Chol Pass the Chairman went over with a "do-or-die" will.
We should always cherish Chol Pass in our hearts in order to realize the Chairman’s desire for a powerful country as soon as possible and bring earlier the rosy future of the country when the posterity will enjoy all blessings.
Chol Pass hardened our will to hasten the bright future of communism for sure by faithfully upholding the leadership of the respected General Secretary.
