New National and Regional Intangible Cultural Heritages Registered
Our resourceful and ingenious people have created numerous excellent cultural heritages through generations.
Among them are also intangible cultural heritages showing the noble spiritual world of our people and their life.
Under the Party’s policy on protecting historic cultural heritages, lots of intangible cultural heritages reflective of the excellent traditions are being registered as the national and regional intangible cultural heritages of the DPRK and the work for actively protecting, inheriting and developing them is being briskly conducted in our country.
Recently the field of historic heritage conservation has newly registered ２５ items as the national and regional intangible cultural heritages of the DPRK.
Nineteen of them are national intangible cultural heritages.
Among them are the customs of utilizing chestnut and wild fruit.
The custom of utilizing chestnut was formed in the course of using chestnut including Songchon chestnut and Kumya chestnut of our country.
The custom of using wild fruit was also formed, inherited and developed in the course of people’s active creative activities in our country, most parts of which are mountainous regions.
This is one of the customs peculiar to our people.

In order for those factories to put the production on a regular footing, it is imperative to solve the provision of raw materials such as wild fruit, oil-bearing crops and sugar crops.
It is of significance in inheriting and developing the traditional customs created in the course of our people’s labor life and laying a solid foundation of regional development to develop and enrich the custom of using wild fruit.
Korean tunes, the precious musical heritage to be proud of in the world, have also newly registered as a national intangible cultural heritage.
Today, Korean tunes make tangible contributions to the cultural and emotional life of our people with its diverse and ample power of expression.
Among the national intangible cultural heritages are also the story about Ondal which is widely spread among our people and the folk tale of Kaesong created and handed down in the Kaesong area.
Beside them, there are also different ceramic manufacturing techniques, pine-needle fumigation, etc.
Registered as regional intangible cultural heritages are six items including roasted shellfish and roasted gizzard.
The treasure house of our historic cultural heritages will get ampler amid ever-increasing social interest in protecting, inheriting and developing excellent cultural traditions handed down through generations.
