Monumental Hymn "National Anthem of the DPRK"

A national anthem is a hymn in praise of motherland.

One day in September １９４６, President Kim Il Sung sat together with creators and assigned them to a task of producing the national anthem of the DPRK, saying that the Korean people want to sing of their joy and honor of enjoying freedom and happiness in the liberated country.

Ours is a very beautiful country and our people are a wise nation with a history of ５ ０００ years and brilliant culture, he said, adding that the Korean people’s pride of having a beautiful country and glorious traditions should be reflected in the national anthem.

The creators set his teachings to the words and meldoy of national anthem.

In June １９４７, the President who met officials and creators in the field of art and literature at the deliberation meeting of the newly-composed "National Anthem of the DPRK" provided detailed guidance over the song, pointing line by line.

He advised the creators to repeat the refrain of the song once more, saying that by doing so the song would give better melodic effect, be more grandiose and redouble the pride and the confidence of the people in the country.

Today our people are replete with the will to do their best for the socialist country, singing the "National Anthem of the DPRK" reflective of their great dignity and pride of being a citizen of a powerful country and the ardent love for the country.
