Many Farms Seethe with Catfish Ingathering
Water Teems with Fishes
The respected General Secretary
With high zeal to powerfully demonstrate the validity of the policy on paddy-field fish farming from the first year, senior officials of the Agricultural Commission, provinces, cities and counties directed great efforts to this undertaking this year.
Heavily-laden rice ears are swaying above the water and catfishes are swarming under the water to the delight and pride of the officials and workers in the agricultural field.
News about catfish harvest is reported from one region after another.
The Ryongchon Farm in Wonsan City set five hectares of field as the plot for paddy-field fish farming and released the catfish fries in June.
Now the water in the paddies teems with fishes about 0.8 to 1.3kg heavy on average.
They have so far harvested 57.6 tons of fishes in 2.5 hectares from September 3 last.
The officials and farmers expect to harvest over 110 tons in total.
Under the guidance of the county Party Committee, almost all the workteams of the Yakjon Farm in Sukchon County respectively selected 1 000 to 1 500 phyongs of plot for paddy-field fish farming with infertile fields in the main and conducted fish farming in a solid manner.
From September 4, they have been harvesting lots of catfish every day.
According to them, they are going to harvest almost 100 tons when they finish harvesting catfish in the one-hectare trial plot in a few days.
The township farm in Thaethan County also demonstrated the validity of Party policy on encouraging paddy-field fish farming by harvesting 8.3 tons of catfish in 0.2 hectare of paddy field.
Unprecedented Paddy Rice Crop
The validity and vitality of the paddy-field fish farming are also powerfully demonstrated through the paddy rice crop.
The Workteam No. 5 of the Kangson Farm in Chollima District conducted paddy-field fish farming in two hectares of paddies this year.
The number of spikelets per ear of the paddy rice is about 270 which is 60 to 70 more than that in the regular fields.
The officials and farmers of the Ryulsong Farm in Jongphyong County are also greatly delighted with the satisfactory paddy rice crop.
The officials and farmers of the Jongbang Farm in Sariwon City proudly say that they harvested lots of catfishes and what’s even more surprising is the unprecedentedly rich rice crop in the plot for paddy-field fish farming.
Pride of many regions and units including the township farm in Tongrim County and Jongju City that they secured satisfactory catfish harvest and rich paddy rice crop without weeding or using any herbicides shows that they can readily bring about rich rice and fish harvest when they follow the Party's instructions.
Growing Confidence
An important achievement in this year’s struggle is that material and technical foundations were laid and lots of experience accumulated with which to carry out the Party policy on encouraging paddy-field fish farming more creditably.
A temporary technical guide for paddy-field fish farming was formulated and issued and over a hundred fish breeding stations and workteams were newly built or remodeled in provinces, cities and counties in a short period of time.
The Samjigang Farm in Jaeryong County newly built a refrigerator with a capacity of 150 tons, puffed fodder production room, protein fodder breeding ground and the like.
In particular, it established its own fish breeding system and produced 800 000 catfish fries to release many of them to its fields and send the rest to other farms in the county.
The Chilgol Vegetable Farm in Mangyongdae District cultivated garlic as an early crop in the plot for paddy-field fish farming so as to increase the land utility rate and took practical measures for solving fodder problem including arranging a protein fodder breeding ground and installing luring lamps.
It also focused on manufacturing equipment at the mechanization workteam to produce and use puffed fodders, thus bringing about good harvest.
The proud reality witnessed in the farms in our country verifies again that the Party policy is a science and a truth and that we can become well-off only when we follow the Party’s intentions.
The greater their delight in harvest grows, all the officials and workers become harder in their determination and zeal to uphold our Party’s policies for the people.
