Tomb Mural of Koryo Period Newly Unearthed

The tomb mural was made at a depth of about １.５m underground. There is a coffin of granite stone. On the northern wall which is black one are letters about the life of the hero and his family records.
There is a cover stone. Its length is １５０cm, width １４０cm and thickness ３５cm.
The mural of the eastern and western walls is the landscape painting which depicted mountain peaks, rocky cliffs, trees, a flowing stream, flying birds, etc.
This mural is a precious art work showing beautiful scenery of nature.
The mural of the southern wall depicted two guards.
On the northern wall (black stone) are more than １, ０００ letters (２７ letters in a row and ４２ rows).
The newly discovered tomb mural of Koryo period has a great academic value.
It is the first landscape painting made early in the １１th century.
There are data which will deeply explain politics, economy, culture and military sectors of Koryo from the end of １０th century to the first half of the １１th century.
Through this tomb mural, we can prove the historical fact that Koryo’s culture inherited the culture of Koguryo with new material data.
This research finding adds patriotism and pride of the long history and brilliant culture to our people and it is of great significance in enriching the cultural heritages.
