Kye Ung Sang, the world-class geneticist and breeding scientist, still lives in the memory of our people as a genuine scientist who faithfully served the country and people.

Recorded in his career during which he lived a dignified life of a true scientist, enjoying the trust and love of President Kim Il Sung since he returned to the liberated country, is a touching story about the title of Labor Hero he received.

One day in December １９６３, the President was meeting the scientists of the Academy of Agricultural Science and giving precious instructions to them when he realized that it was Kye Ung Sang’s ７０th birth anniversary a few days later.

With a thoughtful look, the President told the officials that Kye Ung Sang was a distinguished, meritorious scientist of our country and taught it would be good to grant him the title of Labor Hero.

Since all the political members were present there, he suggested holding a mobile political committee to decide on the issue.

Then he asked the officials what they thought.

All the officials answered him in agreement.

The President wore a bright smile on his face and proposed to decide on the conferment of the title of Labor Hero.

Then he underlined the need to bring out the selected works of Kye Ung Sang soon and introduce about his scientific research achievements in the papers on his birthday.

On the day when he received the title of Labor Hero, Kye was overwhelmed by the great love of the President to hear the story and wept out of excitement.

He looked back upon the days when he lived a worthful life of a scientist under the care of the great father.

Once, when the alien elements were slandering his genetic theory, the President highly acknowledged him as a meritorious scientist who established his scientific belief through tens of years of studying into silkworms and produced a superior silkworm breed on that basis.

Though he was busy with postwar reconstruction, the President called him near and discussed the ways for rapidly developing the country’s sericulture with him.

Indeed, Kye Ung Sang’s genuine life began in the embrace of the President and could shed brilliance thanks to his great love.
