Head of DPRK Delegation Makes Speech at 81st Session of UN General Assembly
Kim Son Gyong, vice-minister of Foreign Affairs who is heading the DPRK delegation, made a speech at the 81st Session of the UN General Assembly on September 28.
Noting that over the past one year, the world has witnessed the grave reality, in which the global instability and disorder have reached the extreme due to mutual distrust, confrontation, violation of sovereignty and military conflict, almost every day, he said:
The UN still remains a malfunction due to the high-handedness and unilateralism of some countries seeking after only their exclusive interests.
All the member states of the UN will have to thoroughly defend the original purpose and principle of the UN Charter and seek a proper way for settling any issue with priority given to the mutual unity and cooperation, in order to overcome all the existing crises and challenges and promote peace, security and sustainable development.
The DPRK people have undertaken new huge projects with confidence so as to bring about a bigger fruition while consolidating the successes achieved in the struggle for opening up the period of overall development under the wise leadership of Comrade
There are countless challenges and difficulties ahead of us, but we will surely achieve everything we aim at by relying on our own strength, no matter how the situation may change.
The Korean Peninsula and its surrounding region are now facing extreme instability and tension worse than last year due to the constant hostile policy of the U.S. and its satellite states toward the DPRK and their escalating military confrontation moves.
The DPRK head of state declared that the sovereignty and security of our state have been reliably guaranteed by the powerful strength and they would remain invariable in the future, too.
The nuclear deterrent possessed by the DPRK is outright an absolute force and an irresistible might to defend its sovereignty, security and peace from the outside aggression and threat.
The DPRK will as ever remain more faithful to its mission as a responsible nuclear weapons state in firmly defending the national sovereignty and fundamental interests and ensuring the regional and global peace and security by strictly controlling all sorts of threat from outside with the overwhelming force.
The ever-changing present times urgently demands that the UN remarkably enhance its role to deal with the challenges and crises facing mankind in conformity with the common interests of mankind, he said, and went on:
The top-priority pressing task is to build the United Nations into the one for all which is faithful to the purpose and principle of the Charter and where fairness and objectivity are thoroughly guaranteed.
It’s time to reform the United Nations.
The UN should be truly democratic so that the will and interests of all its member states are represented on an equal footing, not on the basis of reform centred on specified countries.
The DPRK government will further strive to promote the international justice and co-prosperity and the regional and global peace and security while thoroughly defending the national sovereignty, security and interests and development rights.
