Historic Relic, Chonju Temple
The Chonju Temple is situated on the southeast hillside of Yaksandongdae, famous for beautiful scenery and red azaleas.
The temple was first built in 1684 and was rebuilt in 1722.
According to the Monument to Cholong Wall Construction, the Chonju Temple was built in 1684, when the old wall was reconstructed, and had 80-odd rooms.
Now, the Pogwang Hall, the main building of the temple, the Chonju Pavilion opposite it, and several accessory buildings are left of the temple.
Several embankments were erected to build the temple on a hillside.
The Pogwang Hall is a double-eave gabled house which is three kans on the front and two kans on the side.
The Chonju Pavilion is a characteristic two-story house.
With the big, central attic as the center, passageways stretching from both sides have two attics at the end respectively.
Behind the two attics, there are accessory buildings, which all together remind people of an old government office building.
